Origami is a form of visual sculpture defined by the folding or creasing of paper the goal of which is to create a representation of an object of art.
Artist Liz Hamman believes she has created some original and unique pieces of jewellery using the technique of Origami.
By using old books, maps, comics in fact any paper product that takes her fancy she manipulates the paper with folding, stacking, creasing and weaving to produce paper magic that is wonderful to see.
The Japanese word Origami is a compound of two smaller Japanese words ori meaning "folding" and gami meaning "paper" the art of origami has been practised for centuries and Liz has now brought this wonderful art form to the 20th century with her great fun range of jewellery.
All the pieces have been finished with water based lacquer which makes it surprisingly durable. We wouldn't however advise wearing it while swimming, bathing or in the case of a bracelet, doing the washing up!
Liz knows that an old book can be treasured for life and she hopes her origami jewellery will too.
