Making your own vs. purchasing accessories.

I am really thinking about small pieces here, like necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, but I find that most mass produced jewelry is too tame. It has no personality. Even when expensive diamond stores allow people to chose a setting, the settings and rings they are attached to have no personality.

How many of you make your own jewelry to get the special look you seek?

Do you buy items and add them to other pieces for variety?
